The Lyrics
This is one of my favorite Andy Griffith Show episodes where what starts out as casual talk about politics at a picnic leads to Ellie May Walker's decision to run for first female town council representative. Andy belittles her and gets the men to fight against her petition to get her name on the ballot by having the men cut off their wive's credit lines at the stores. The women get the 100 signatures needed (thanks to Barney) and retaliate by not cooking, cleaning, and no (offscreen) sex of course. Ellie is about to give in and drop out when Opie repeats some sexist remarks from Andy. Andy realizes his mistake and then supports Ellie who wins a seat. A very good episode IMHO. Ellie was played by actress Elinor Donahue. I have used Ellie May here instead of Ellie Mae b/c most of the sites online list her that way; if incorrect, please let me know the source!

Another good job of capturing the gist of an Andy Griffith episode in a parody.
Thanks Porfle, but is it Ellie May or Mae? In that episode Barney was with Hilda Mae!!!
I don't know, all I remember her being called was Ellie. Barney was quite a ladies' man--even after he hooked up with Thelma Lou, he kept Juanita on the side.
