The Lyrics
From the Hunger Games books and movie. In future North America, now called Panem (comprising 12 Districts and one Capitol), each year 2 members of the opposite sex ages 12-18 are forced to compete in the Capitol's Arena in the barbaric Hunger Games. Each pair represents one District. And when the games begin the 24 must hunt each other as there can be only one winner. Starting with a lottery on Reaping Day, Katniss Everdeen who comes from District 12 (the poorest of them all- a coal mining region) makes history by volunteering as Tribute when her sister Primrose's name is called. Prim is too young and frail to survive the games, so Katniss the huntress steps forward. She is paired with Peeta Mellark who has secretly loved her all of his life. Katniss uses her foraging and hunting skills with a bow to survive and save Peeta. They emerge victorious, but the Capitol does not seek to honor its word of two survivors. So Katniss suggests that they eat poison berries as self-sacrifice and thus forces the Capitol to back down. Katniss has now become a political threat and the Mockingjay a symbol of rebellion...

Interesting parody. I just saw BATTLE ROYALE for the first time a few weeks ago so I'm interested in how the two stories compare.
THANK YOU Porfle- I keep hearing about the originality if HG and asked myself WTF? b/c of BR which was banned in Japan when it came out due to teen-on-teen violence. They are VERY different when it comes to violence but the basic architecture of each film is the same. They both pick teens to fight to the death and keep them moving. Clicks form for killings and to stay alive you gotta keep on the move. BR has more betrayals but the formula is the same...
I can appreciate this parody. I read the first book and enjoyed it. Just fyi though, if you're gonna write a summary like your initial comment that gives up some of the major plot points and twists of the book, you may want to put a caption at the top saying SPOILER ALERT for anyone who's only just reading the books or hasn't gotten to it yet.
Sorry Glen, did not think when I worte it! It's been over 3 weeks here in the US and it already has grossed close to $250 mil. Although still in the #1 slot the intake has dropped drastically from $155 mil down to $37 mil for last week. My local theater initially ran 21 showings per day and that is now down to 12... so most people I know already saw it... several times!!!
Loved the books and liked the movie a lot. Great tribute Rob! Even though I hate the OS, it was still a fantastic parody! 555
