The Lyrics
Should have thought of this right away!!! The German MP-40 SMG in WW2 was a result of careful analysis of the weapons used in the Spanish Civil War. The Heer wanted a new SMG, but without the wooden furniture and adding a folding stock. The result was the MP-38 which then became the MP-40 through simplification of the manufacturign process to use more stampings and weldings. The resulting gun became known as the "Schmeisser" during the war although it was designed by Vollmer of the Erma Werke (Hugo Schmeisser designed the previous Bergmann SMGs)!!! It could fire 600 rpm and carried 32 rounds (the MP-40/2 could carry 64 rounds with dual magazine receiver). It proved very effective and instantly recognizable like the Stuka as a symbol of German aggression. A popular weapon, it was used postwar all over the world as both a police and terror weapon...
