The Lyrics

I love John Lennon's original version but the recent Green Day version is just, like, kinda more deep and meaningful, y'knooo..............y'all can listen to it (temporarily) right here

The day I was born
I started to bawl
those nurses did not understand me at all
the maternity ward was quite cold I recall
A nerdy-arsed emo is something to be
A nerdy-arsed emo is something to be

They hurt me at home and they hurt me at school
I once nearly drowned in the junior lap-pool
and football is hard if y'can't follow the rules
A nerdy-arsed emo is something to be
You get to wear black and be real unhappy

I was tortured emotionally, all through those years
THEN they expected I'd start a career!
but no job I tried had the right atmosphere
A nerdy-arsed emo is something to be
You get to be all deep and Dawsons Creek-y

So I just played sad music and wrote poetry
the world needs more sensitive people like me
there's too many bullies, unfortunately
A nerdy-arsed emo is something to be
I'd stay home and watch Doctor Phil on TV

(pause while I indulge in some favourite mournful chords)

They found me a job - at the town library
but it can be stressful, and really scary
on Thursday two schoolgirls teased me unfairly
A nerdy-arsed zero is something to be
I'd be one again (if I weren't so lazy)
My pasty-faced pals text me incessantly
My ringtone's a Jimmy Eat World mp3

whine, whine, whine........

If you want to be an emo, it's rather easy
just don't hurt my feelings and whine more than me

I'd give you 5's, but what's the point, man... :-)

Story of my life here =) Well done.

The biggest problem with the world today is emo apathy, but who gives a **** about that anyway. (I give 5s here though).
Jack Wilson - June 29, 2007 - Report this comment
That was awesome! 5s
alvin - June 29, 2007 - Report this comment
my fave of the day

I know what you mean when ever I get a 111, put on the black eyeshadow and start listening to Fall Out Boy, but if Rick Cormier records this one I'll have a different song to listen to while I write my awful poetry. The 555er are the only ones that really understand me.
AFW - June 29, 2007 - Report this comment
I goth to give you fives for this...right in tune with today's times
Agrimorfee - June 29, 2007 - Report this comment
Here the cover by Green Day is perfectly matched to the parody! (tho not intrinsically emo, but Lennon was ahead of his time). 555 Stu

thanks McKludge, bummer, man...

thanks Jeff - LOL - I'll check out your Jimmy Eat World parodies

yeah, Peter, why bother bothering anyway - thanks

thanks Jack, thanks alvin - I think that might be a first for me! :-)

thanks Matthias - at least someone understands you. Noone understands me, man, except my poetry

thanks AFW - yeah, in tune - but I don't really like talking about my music

thanks Ag - that's what I thought. Green Day aren't emo, but it was hearing their version on the radio that inspired the title sub - Lennon's is more bitter and angry - thanks mate

(ABC05N)

Emo-apathy as stated in comment by Peter Anderson above - It's like knowing the difference between ignorance and apathy - I don't know and I don't care. So that's 2 parodies about nerds in this round and both from down under folk. Nerdacious write Stu, sniff, sniff... Here's 5 pieces of cheese to go with the whine.

Hey, I can relate to that! "The world needs more sensitive people like me!" No, really...! 5-5-5!

(ABC5) Nice skewering of emo culture here Stu. Never seen on o' thems in real life, but my bet says if I ever see one, they will not fit the stereotype at all. Anyway 555, etc etc.

ABC5(N) Nice job on this - went really well with the OS!!!...555!!!
Red Ant - August 20, 2009 - Report this comment
Perfect fit to the OS, even the feminine rhymes (a subtle dig on emos?) in the last verse. Went well with my cup of hemlock-flavored coffee. The last verse was killer. I'd like to take a stab at recording this... sometime. =)

(ABC) still mopin'

This was fun, a little on the simple side, but something about taking this song, which is truly emo in nature (even the original was) and making it. . .more obvious, just put a smile on my face.
