Song Parodies -> "Overplayed"

Original Song Title:

"Holiday"

Original Performer:

Green Day

Parody Song Title:

"Overplayed"

Parody Written by:

Red Ant

The Lyrics

NOTE TO GREEN DAY FANS!: GREEN DAY ROCKS! THEY MAKE GREAT SONGS!

.....but that doesn't make "Holiday" any less overplayed.
[intro]

Yay? Nay!

Cha!

Here's the start of the Holiday
Known by heart 'cause it's played six times a day (eight !)
That grates
I wish that it would hibernate....

Is this song reaching out to me?
'cause I think it's aimed more at the teens (Hey!)
And tweens!
But MTV's 'won' the war today....

This song you see's requested all the friggin' time
And though I like it - let it rest - for a while....
It's overplayed!....

Hear this tune going all the time
The radio stations have crossed the line (hey!)
I find
It's driving me out of my mind.....

Can we please hear it once again? (again!)
Ten o nine and we just heard it at ten!
Oh why
I'm thinking "my, oh when will it end"....

This song you see's infested all our friggin' lives
And though I like it - let it rest - for a while....
It's overplayed!....

Hey!

[solo]

Say, Hey!

'The representatives from the Green Day Fan Club have the mic'

Hate mail for the parodist Red Ant
"u r lame and your full of **it"
"yeah Green Days the best band ever
dont criticise you idiot"
"that sucked all you're songs r ass man"
"you are a fag and mean meanie"
"and liar liar pants on fire!"
"and bombs away for your parody"
"screw you" ("lame! gay!" ....)
"you're tune..."
My tune speaks the truth yeah!

This song you see's infected all our friggin' lives
It plays from dawn into mid-day - then all night....
I beg you please oh DJ not this one more time
'cause though I like it - it needs rest - for a while....

Because this song is overplayed!..........

Another "Eternal Song." Green Day's had a number of them. Wish we could take a holiday from them.

DKTOS..I thought the top comments were your 11 yr. old self coming out. Good thing it wasn't, was it? lol

Definitely agree. Great song, but WAY TOO OVERPLAYED!!! I like it, but I'm sick of it. 555
Stuart McArthur - May 09, 2006 - Report this comment
hmm, just looked but that's one Green Day song I don't have in itunes - but another worthy addition to your canon of self-referential self-parodying songs, Jack - 555

Thanks Michael, Rick, Alvin, Step-chan, Matthias, Pat, Spud and Stu.

Pat: Yes, it was.

Stu: Counting my St. Anguish project, I believe this is the 38th "song satire" I've done.

Nice. I like Holiday (and I like taking holidays!:D). It's not played too much where I am, but I do hate it when a song is played too frickin' much. The Green Day Fan Club bit was brilliant. I find it funny that this song, one that you would actually hear on the radio, is found on Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. Usually I've never heard of the songs on those games.

And to think I almost overlooked this parody just because I'm tired of TOS!!! The "Representatives From The Green Day Fan Club" bit was genious! You're perfecting this subgenre Jack!

I was beginning to think i was the only one who thought this song was over played --this one and Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Jesus Of Suberbia-- but i see i am not alone, awsome! (not that i don't like green day)

every band has their share of overplayed songs but people only pick one green day i don't see a chop swey! is/was over played nor do i see a parody of the all american rejects or fall out boy parody and they are played much more than green day is anymore so stop being a hipucret and i will stop spelling words rong on all my comments, deal or no deal?
Red Ant - September 15, 2006 - Report this comment
"...people only pick on green day."; not true, Daniel. I have also made fun of at least a dozen different artists with nearly 50 parodies, including The Beatles, Gwen Stefani, and Metallica. While songs by FOB, SOAD, AAR, etc. may be overplayed, I don't listen to radio much anymore, and therefore don't get the chance to be annoyed by them.

"Hipucret"? I'm guessing you meant "hypocrite". In any case, if I am one for satirizing songs that richly deserve it, then by all means keep up the atrocious spelling.
daniel - October 19, 2006 - Report this comment
so u are being a hipucret you made a parody with out getting all of the info on the radio and let me tell you if you listend to the radio you would want to kill fob and aar!!! so stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(ABC3) Fanboys are cute, ain't they Red? :) 555, with a special nod for the "representatives".

Never liked Green Day, and for some reason, I know this song, proving this parody is 100% TRUE! 5-5-5
Michael McVey - January 09, 2007 - Report this comment
Green Day is completely outside my genre, but I liked your reflexive humor.---MM
tomario - January 12, 2007 - Report this comment
DKTOS... only joking i can identify with this. so many songs and stations have such a short play list. "Hipucret" miss the "in" off the end ?

(ABC3O) See above! Still as awesome as it was the first time I read it!

(ABC3O) Holiday got a good airing over here in the UK, Jack...but it was "Boulevard" that really wore very thin in Blighty. Still, great message. 555

(ABC) I approve of parodies that disapprove of OVERPLAYED SONGS!
Red Ant - January 28, 2007 - Report this comment
Thanks Agrimorfee, The Charnstar, MM, tomario, pieman, Stu, Matthias, Jack, Kristof, and Johnny D.

Agrimorfee: Indeed, they are. =)

Stu: I take it that in fact you don't like the self-reference in the parody. Well, neither did I, really (after all, I'm not a rapper). When I record this one, I'm changing "Red Ant" to "ass-hat", which rhymes better anyway.
Stuart McArthur - January 28, 2007 - Report this comment
no, it wasn't a criticism, by any means (the Red Ant line was a funny twist) - just a bad choice of words - it should have been "recursive" I guess, meaning turning the OS onto itself (that's where the 'self'' comes from), at which you're the resident maestro

(btw it would be hard for someone who's written McArthur's Fart to chide others for self-reference!)
