I wrote most of this a couple months ago, when it had just happened, but there were a few lines I just couldn't think of rhymes for, so I let it sit, but I *really* wanted to finish it. Well, JB (our school's Judiciary Board) just came out with their case summary including punishment, and that filled in the rest, so here it is. You might have heard something about this on the news (crossburnings are apparently big news, even non-racist ones) but you likely *didn't* hear the real story. This is my own understanding of what might have happened. Bit coincidental that I made it immediately following a day with two distasteful racist parodies, and less than a week after McVey's wonderful "Three Burning Crosses," but that was entirely unintentional. Oh, and if you *haven't* heard anything about it, this is the story of 4 guys who, over Christmas break, decided to burn something they found, that turned out to be a. someone's artwork, and b. someone's artwork in the *shape of a cross*. Much hysteria ensued.
You said let's take this piece of art and burn it down
I said it sounds like fun, hell yeah, I'm down
You said, how 'bout this cross shaped one? Don't let it fall...
Stand here beside me, help me pry it from the wall
Oh we're gonna gank this art and start a fire
We never thought it'd fill teachers' hearts with ire
Cause the meaning of what we chose we'd never learned
It's just like the things the KKK used to burn.
Duuuhhhh [x4]
Yeah, cause we didn't think our act would start a war
Racism isn't something we're fighting for
And now "we didn't have a clue" is what we said
Blamed it upon a lack of brains in our heads
JB's got me worried a bit 'bout my fate,
For my trial they're setting a date.
Now I know the mistake that I made
I'm just hopin' they're not carried away
Well I just had my trial today
Now I can't use my room over break
Makin' me write this essay
Cause we lit a match and then just let it go
Just stood around admirin', watched the orange glow
Some folks cussed and some just sat and cried
We just looked confused and we wondered why
Yeah, cause we didn't think our act would start a war
Racism isn't something we're fighting for
Now "we didn't have a clue" is what we said
Blamed it upon a lack of brains in our heads
Yeah we're brain-dead
JB's got me worried a bit 'bout my fate,
For my trial they're setting a date.
Now I know the mistake that I've made
I'm just hopin' they're not carried away
Well their verdict, it sure wasn't terse
Yeah it's bad, but it could've been worse
But it could've been worse
But it could've been worse
Yeah, we were kind of drunk
And things became a game
And now we know that we were bein' really lame
We didn't mean to hurt
Truth's just what I said -
Blamed it all upon a lack of brains in our heads
I said it sounds like fun, hell yeah, I'm down
You said, how 'bout this cross shaped one? Don't let it fall...
Stand here beside me, help me pry it from the wall

It is quite a weird topic to all of a sudden hit these pages. Oh well. I was wondering when we would get around to a good Coldplay parody (i think some have been submitted already, but i don't remember them). This was pretty cool.
Well, to spam for myself: this is the second Coldplay song I parodied - the first one is titled Relativity, and I consider it pretty good ;-). Thanks for the vote!
