The Lyrics

This one needs some explaining. Most people who were teenagers in 1945 are senior citizens now, they need to take a lot of prescription pills to stay alive, and a lot of them need electric wheelchairs, or scooters, to get around, and a popular brand is Jazzy. Most females are probably widows, and this explains why her husband is DOA (dead on arrival).OK, the others that need explaining are:Gable=Clark GableGoodman=Benny Goodman, clarinetist known as the "King of Swing"Krupa=Gene Krupa, jazz drummerBingle=Bing CrosbyFrankie=Frank Sinatranothin' playin' on TV=People usually relied on the radio for entertainment, and there was TV in 1945, but hardly anyone had a receiver, and most stations were in the big cities and off the air due to the warDorsey=There were two Dorsey brothers, Tommy and Jimmy, and each led a big bandjukebox=In 1945, most radio stations played programs and hardly any programmed music, so you listened to popular hits wherever there was a jukebox.
Ooh, hoo, hoo
Ooh, hoo, hoo
Mildred just hit the wall
She never had it all
A zillion pills a day
Husband is DOA
Her dreams went out the door
In 1964
Only been with one man
Whatever happened to her plan?
She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her butt
On the hood of Gable's car
Her scooter named Jazzy
Is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing
Has been
All right since ol'...

Goodman and Krupa
Way 'fore Alice Cooper
There were Bingle and Frankie
And nothin' playin' on TV
Great-grandkids in high school
They know that she's so uncool
And she's still preoccupied

1945

She's seen all the classics
She knows every line
Lost Weekend, National Velvet
All those old movies fine
She boogied out to Glenn
Not a big Brian Setzer fan
Thought she'd get her hand
On a member of a Dorsey band
Wears a big dress made of cotton
And who the hell is Johnny Rotten?
When did the radio become TV?
Whatever happened to
Myst'ries
And Westerns
On the jukebox there were...

Goodman and Krupa
Way 'fore Alice Cooper
There were Bingle and Frankie
And nothin' playin' on TV
Great-grandkids in high school
They know that she's so uncool
And she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1945

She hates time
Make it stop
When did Glenn Miller become "Music of Your Life"?
And when did Sinatra become an actor?
Please make it stop
Stop
Stop
And bring back...

Goodman and Krupa
Way 'fore Alice Cooper
There were Bingle and Frankie
And nothin' playin' on TV
Great-grandkids in high school
They know that she's so uncool
And she's still preoccupied
