no offence avril-fans....but i think avril lavigne wrecked punk...she made it sort of tacky by trying 2 hard. if she was supposedly being exactly who she was, whats with the straightening of the hair a billion times a day? isn't that changing who she is?

Avril isn't punk.. she doesn't even dress like a punk.. calling her a punk is an insult to punk. Avril is pop. You can call it rock music, since a lot of music is labeled as rock. Punk however, has an emphasis on non-conformity, and Avril is the product of a record company, nothing more. The first time I heard one of her songs, I thought it was Britney Spears. Punk is harsh and abbressive, not cute and fluffy. You can like her music, play it all you want, just don't degrade punk music by calling what she plays punk music.

I didn't once call Avril punk or her music punk. I didn't 'go off on punks' or anything (but your 'chess club' joke was very clever.. moron). Avril IS A POSER. It's not obvious to those that like her BECAUSE THEY LIKE HER. Her music is simple pop. It's not bad, but the image is what makes me mad. She wears 20 bracelets her record label probably bought at Hot Topic and she tears up malls and skateboards. She also, at times, claims to be punk. Therefore, she most likely thinks she is. When it comes down to the fact that she's so obviously not, it's just funny. And annoying. Her lyrics are terrible, but they were terribly easy to parody to make fun of her. It's like she did it on purpose. So, as a final note: I didn't say Avril is punk, she's just trying way too hard to use that image; I didn't say anything bad about punk music, I just made fun of Avril who IS NOT PUNK; Avril is no more than a product of a record label, as said before. You see, kids liked punk. So, this band, blink-182, makes music that sounds like punk but it's not nearly as hard or edgy. They start using the f word more and they get played on MTV. Sum-41 comes out two years later with the same success. Now, last year, people like Avril and New Found Glory become popular BECAUSE they imitate those bands. It's funny, because it's now pop-pop-punk. ... Excuse me, I'm done defending my song from dumb people who assume since I don't like Avril I'm a nerd and I play chess. Chess isn't a bad game, though, Trish Ryan, you're probably too stupid to play it or too busy 'punking it out' with your Avril CD.

lol @ john harvey! oh boy, another one of these arguments. i don't really like avril much myself, i just dont see why everyone can't leave her alone for five minutes and find something better to argue about.

he he he... i only hate avril because of her lack of talent (singing and playing oops! i mean HOLDING a guitar). she isn't punk, therefore that isn't my main qualm. I play guitar myself, i think i can sing, and avril admitted that she was lucky to get a record deal.
