Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> unknown

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

unknown's, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You better not shout, you better not cry
The Real Lyrics:
You better watch out, you better not cry
The Story: I didn't mishear them, but I heard a little kid singing it this way, and found by Googling that he wasn't alone. - Submitted by: Neal Whitman
unknown's, "Sopranos theme"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Woke up this morning. Got a boom boom in your eye.
The Real Lyrics:
Woke up this morning. Got a blue moon in your eye.
The Story: My misheard lyrics made perfect sence to me for years. I thought they were alluding to the scene in "The Godfather," where the accountant took a bullet (boom boom) in the eye through his glasses while he was in bed. I'd still think it was "boom boom," but I got a phone call and hit the remote mute button which automatically brings up the subtitles. While talking, I watched the lyrics displayed on the screen. I understood "boom boom," but what the hell does "blue moon" mean? - Submitted by: Michael L. Spaur
