Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Hush, hush
Even downtown Worcester's scary.
Hush, hush
Keep it down now Voices carry.
The Story: I went to college in a bad section Worcester, MA, so my dorm roomies use to sing this. - Submitted by: Bruce
Hold on, lead me down now, Mrs. Carey.
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry.
The Story: Heard it on movie “Sky High” and it was very nostalgic. I tried finding the song using the chorus “lead me down now Mrs. Carey.” Somehow I found the song with the real lyrics: “Hush hush keep it down now, voices carry.” - Submitted by: Doug
Hush hush, keep it down now, this is scary
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
The Story: I always thought this had to do with some kind of horror movie that people were talking and laughing through, and the singer is telling them to "shut up". Oh this is scary! LOL - Submitted by: Kris Ten
Hush hush, please don't cry now, this is Gary.
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry.
The Story: I lost the opportunity to win 1500 sheckles on an Scottish game show, where you had to 'fill in the blanks' of popular songs. And, the song was the Til Tuesday, lyrics above. Afterward, I was upset, tears rolling down cheeks, and one of the electrical grips - nametag: Garee, consoled me by saying: there there, it's all right, lad, I'm Garee. I laughed so suddenly hard, that he frowned and left, missing the funny sequence of verbal events. - Submitted by: Don G. Uzrakts
Hush hush, this is downtown, this is scary
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
The Story: My friend and I were singing along one day, and she caught me singing it wrong. LOL - Submitted by: Jo B.
Oh - shush
Keep it down now
You'll miscarry.
Hush, hush
Keep it down now
Voices carry.
The Story: I used to drive my wife crazy singing this lyric . I think it pissed her off because she was a labor & delivery nurse. I understand now and we're still together. - Submitted by: Jonathon Wilde
Oh judge, keep 'em downtown boys so scary
Oh, shush, keep it down now voices carry
The Story: I picked up a friend of mine at the airport. On the way home, this song came on and she started belting out this 'judge' line. I had to pull over. She was dead serious about those lyrics. I took me a while to convince her that was not the right line. - Submitted by: Deeter
Oh oh right take us down town Princess Carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
The Story: I have sung this song this way since I heard it the first time. And just today I woke up with the song in my head and sang it out loud and thought that can't be right. Lol so I looked it up and now I feel like an idiot. I've always gotten words wrong in songs. My sisters always made me sing these songs in front of people too. Hope they never hear about this one. - Submitted by: Marlinda Jones
Oh shush, eating downtown Mrs. Carrey?
Oh shush, even downtown voices carry
The Story: I heard this song and honestly thought that it was from the perspective of someone telling a person to shut up and then asking Mrs. Carrey if she'd be grabbing a bite to eat downtown that day... - Submitted by: Alexia
People downtown are so scary.
Keep it down now, voices carry.
The Story: My best friend and I were driving around and I heard her singing these lyrics and I cracked up! She never believed me that it wasn't 'people downtown are so scary'. Every time I hear the song I think of her and laugh! - Submitted by: Deb Phil
