Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).
My Sharona album at Amazon.com
The Story: My mother thought the song was in poor taste, as Juan Corona killed 25 Mexican migrants and buried them on his land in the early 70's. - Submitted by: Alex
The Story: When I was a kid, I had just been watching a Peanuts cartoon when we had to get in the car to run an errand. This song came on the radio, and I heard "M-m-m-my Sharona" as "M-m-m-mighty Schroeder." - Submitted by: Glenn
The Story: Heard this from a friend . . . I knew the proper lyrics! - Submitted by: Stef
Rice a Roni
The Story: My dad has a lot of old records and we decided to dig them out. I heard 'My Sharona' for the first time, and I thought the singers were saying 'Rice a Roni'. So then, we dig out a box of 'Rice a Roni', and we shaked it around to make a little instrument. We even had it on video. - Submitted by: Tyler
The Story: This was my cousin and my favorite song the summer of '75. We'd dance on the boat out on the Columbia River. One day, he finally asked us why we liked a song about a bad instant rice dish. - Submitted by: Jp
The Story: I attended a volunteer training class drunk. My drink of choice for the evening was Corona. My friend sang, 'Nine Coronas,' turns to me and asks 'Isn't that a song?' - Submitted by: Joyce
