Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Stabbing Westward

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Darkest Days album at Amazon.com
Stabbing Westward's, "Desperate Now"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And I still look down your shirt.
The Real Lyrics:
I feel like dying.
The Story: It was the exclamation sound on my computer and my fiance kept hearing the lyrics totally wrong, as you can see. - Submitted by: Xak
Stabbing Westward's, "How Can I Exist Without You?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
How can I have sex without you?
The Real Lyrics:
How can I exist without you?
The Story: I thought the song was about him missing his girlfriend (kinda true) and that he was yelling about one of the things he'd be missing (not true). My girlfriend pointed this error out to me after laughing at me for a while. - Submitted by: Bryan R
Stabbing Westward's, "Shame"
The Misheard Lyrics:
How can I have sex without you?
The Real Lyrics:
How can I exist without you?
The Story: I first heard this song at my girlfriend's place. She was a dj (in a small sports-type bar) and would sometimes take a cd or 2 home with her for a little illegal taping. The next time I went to work with her, she played the song. Picture a 'cute' young looking girl, 5 months pregnant, belting out the misheard lyrics at the top of her lungs, right in front of the dj booth (which happened to be stationed right in the middle of the bar, in the pool table section:) Oops. - Submitted by: WolfSong
Stabbing Westward's, "Torn Apart"
The Misheard Lyrics:
These vultures tore my world apart.
The Real Lyrics:
These lies have torn my world apart.
The Story: My friend and I were driving in his car, listening to this song a few days after I found out what the actual lyrics to it were. I told him that I had always thought it was 'These vultures...'. He looked at me and said 'You mean he's not saying 'These vultures took my waterbombs?' - Submitted by: James
