Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Sonny and Cher

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Wondrous World of Sonny & Cher album at
Sonny and Cher's, "A Cowboy's Work Is Never Done"
The Misheard Lyrics:
He'd buy crap all the time
He'd always win
Till his mom would break him up
And call him in
The Real Lyrics:
He'd fight crime all the time
He'd always win
Till his mom would break it up
And call him in
The Story: I never did work this out at the time. I considered it might be "play craps" due to the lyrics about playing games. Even knowing the lyrics now, I still hear "buy crap". - Submitted by: Claude
Sonny and Cher's, "The Beat Goes On"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Drugs keep pounding rhythm to the brain.
The Real Lyrics:
Drums keep pounding rhythm to the brain.
The Story: When I hear this one on the radio, I usually ask 'What brain?' Although, I will say Sonny Bono was a good congressman. - Submitted by: Michael McVey
