Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Seven Mary Three

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Seven Mary Three's, "Cumbersome"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Your life has become commercial.
The Real Lyrics:
Your life has become cumbersome.
The Story: I was driving on the highway with my two best friends when this song was on the radio in the late nineties. We were all listening to the radio and belting out the lyrics. My friend RJ is notorious for singing the wrong lyrics to most songs without thinking about the content. It is quite hilarious. When this line of the song was on he was dead serious and belted out from the backseat, 'Your life has become commercial'. We fell out with laughter and he looked at us like we were crazy! It was probably funnier because we were all stoned at the time! - Submitted by: Anja
Seven Mary Three's, "My, My"
The Misheard Lyrics:
If mercy was a cattle prod, she didn't care.
The Real Lyrics:
If mercy was a cattle call, she didn't hear.
The Story: Our singer was not around when we learned this song and everyone thought he was saying "cattle prod". When the singer showed up he said "Cattle Call" when he sang the words. We all stopped and said "no, it's cattle prod". But as soon as he said no it's cattle call, it all made perfect sense. Of course it would be cattle call, Duh! - Submitted by: Zymurgy
