Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Rick Springfield

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Rick Springfield's, "Don't Talk to Strangers"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Now who's this someone I've been hearing of?
The Real Lyrics:
Now who's this Don Juan I've been hearing of?
The Story: After a few weeks of listening to Rick's cds, my daughters were all singing to the lyrics. I noticed my teen was missing this one lyric. I asked her about it one evening when my mom was over. Even my mom thought he was saying 'someone I've been hearing of.' I told them no, the word he is saying is Don Juan. I had to play it back a few times for them to hear it. I half expected my mom to miss this but not my teenager. - Submitted by: Samantha
Rick Springfield's, "Human Touch"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I feel so f**king isolated, alone in the modern world, uh-huh
The Real Lyrics:
I feel so snug and isolated, alone in the modern world, uh-huh
The Story: It was 1983 and Journey had a big hit with "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" and I misheard the line "if he ever hurts you" as "if he ever f**ks you". Taking that in consideration and the fact that "snug" ain't really a common word in rock lyrics, you can do the math. Besides, "album rock FM" played "Life in the Fast Lane" and "She's So Cold" unedited - with the G.D. word intact! - Submitted by: Mr. Fonetixx
Rick Springfield's, "Jessie's Girl"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I wish that I had just seen a girl
The Real Lyrics:
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
The Story: Why don't people tell me that those aren't the actual lyrics sooner!!! I just found out a couple of years ago that these are not the actual lyrics, and I have thought that my whole life! - Submitted by: Daniel Culp
Rick Springfield's, "Jessie's Girl"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You know I wish that I had Dustin's girl
The Real Lyrics:
You know I wish that I had Jessie's girl
The Story: This was presented in memory of Dustin Diamond (1977-2021), who passed away earlier this year. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Rick Springfield's, "Love Somebody"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You better know somebody
The Real Lyrics:
You better love somebody
The Story: This mishearing makes sense since he had a hit earlier with "Don't Talk to Strangers". Sure, you gotta know someone or else they're a stranger! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Rick Springfield's, "What Kind of Fool Am I?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
What kind of food am I?
The Real Lyrics:
What kind of fool am I?
The Story: My 9 year old son was sing the song 'What Kind of Fool am I ?' in the car one day after I had been playing it. After my son was done singing the song he asked 'Why does Rick Springfield think he is a food ?' - Submitted by: Julie Lothes
