Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Rick Derringer

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Rick Derringer's, "Rock 'n' Roll Hoochie Koo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
C'mon little pussy, want to do it to you.
The Real Lyrics:
C'mon a little closer, want to do it to you.
The Story: Back in the summer of 1981 when the Nickelodeon cable network first debuted, one of their first orders of business was to broadcast a Rick Derringer concert. I just couldn't imagine cable tv's premier 'kids only' network showcasing someone singing about pussy. - Submitted by: Bob Malone
Rick Derringer's, "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Rock and roll, pushing through.
The Real Lyrics:
Rock and roll hoochie koo.
The Story: I was singing this song during class when this song came out, I was in 7th Grade (1974). The guy in front of me turned around and said 'It's Hoochie Koo, dumbass!' I'll never forget that moment. It always makes me laugh every time I remember it. - Submitted by: Rex Karz
Rick Derringer's, "Rock n' Roll Hoochie Koo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Come on baby, bite my shoe.
The Real Lyrics:
C'mon little closer I'm gonna do it to you
The Story: This song came on the radio and I was singing this song with my wife and son in the car. When I got to this line they both were like, 'What did you sing?' I waited until it came around in the song again. They couldn't believe it. They didn't know what the lyric was but they were sure it wasn't what I was singing. Everytime we hear that song, they remind me of my stupidity. I always knew that I didn't know the right words but I never knew how dumb my replacement words were. - Submitted by: Chris Smith
