Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Ray Stevens

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

#1 with a Bullet album at Amazon.com
Ray Stevens', "Mama Sang Bass"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Mama said grace - daddy ate dinner...
The Real Lyrics:
Mama sang bass - daddy sang tenor...
The Story: When I was little my folks used to play the album. It made sense to me since my mother always said grace before daddy started chowin' down! - Submitted by: Jinelle
Ray Stevens', "The Streak"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Ethel, you shaved that p***y?
The Real Lyrics:
Ethel, you shameless hussy!
The Story: For years that's what I thought he was screaming, until my friend told me it was 'shameless hussy'. I always thought it was something Ray Stevens snuck in at the end of the song during the fade, but I should have known better since he's not known for using profanity like that. - Submitted by: John R.
Ray Stevens', "The Streak"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Ethel, you'll get your corn dog!
The Real Lyrics:
Ethel, you get your clothes on!
The Story: Well, he was running up near the concession stand. So it made sense about the corn dog---until I sang this at karaoke, and got laughed off the stage. - Submitted by: Dan Fletcher
Ray Stevens', "The Streak"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Look-at-dat, look-at-dat!
The Real Lyrics:
Boogity boogity
The Story: I forgot that the "real" lyric is not just the most frequent result that appears on Google! Then I looked at Ray Stevens official site and the cover of the album "boogity boogity" but it was too late... - Submitted by: Frank
