Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Prince And The Revolution

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Prince And The Revolution's, "Let's Pretend We're Married"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm in love with guys, it's the only way.
The Real Lyrics:
I'm in love with God, He's the only way.
The Story: I've been confused for years about Prince. And although he's my favorite, I put him on a shelf---all because of this song...and my misinterpreted lyrics. - Submitted by: Gina
Prince And The Revolution's, "Little Red Corvette"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Do you recollect?
The Real Lyrics:
Little red Corvette
The Story: I would get funny looks whenever I sang the song. Finally, a friend asked me what was I singing. When I told him what I thought the lyrics were, he laughed and asked me what did 'recollect' have to do with the song. I told him I didn't know but I noticed it didn't seem to make sense. Once he explained the song to me, I turned red. - Submitted by: Michael Wright
Prince And The Revolution's, "Little Red Corvette"
The Misheard Lyrics:
E d'el vec a vec.
The Real Lyrics:
Little red Corvette
The Story: My friend Mindy thought this was French for 'Baby you're much too fast.' The only thing was, she knew the song was called 'Little Red Corvette.' - Submitted by: Jeffery Povero
Prince And The Revolution's, "Little Red Corvette"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Miracle Max
The Real Lyrics:
Little red Corvette
The Story: I don't know if I heard this versus miracle man before I saw The Princess Bride; however, I definitely always have heard it as Miracle Max since then as it is stuck in my head that way. It would be a great basis for a Weird Al parody. - Submitted by: Jeffrey
Prince And The Revolution's, "Little Red Corvette"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Rigolette Colette
The Real Lyrics:
Little red Corvette
The Story: For years, I have always thought the chorus was Rigolette Colette. I would belt it out when it came on the radio. Then, one day, this guy I was dating (now my husband) burst out laughing and said: 'It's Little Red Corvette' I said: 'You're right that's the name of the song? And he said: 'No, he's NOT singing Rigolette Colette...he's singing Little Red Corvette!' - Submitted by: KHG
Prince And The Revolution's, "Raspberry Beret"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She wore a raspberry parfait.
The Real Lyrics:
She wore a raspberry beret.
The Story: This is what my mother thought the lyrics were. She was singing along with the radio while driving my brothers and I somewhere. We busted up laughing! She pulled up to a red light and looked at us like we were crazy. When we told her the correct lyrics, she laughed harder than we did. Great site! - Submitted by: Jamie Sells
