Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Pet Shop Boys

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Pet Shop Boys', "Domino Dancing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Ole, ole
Watch them all fall down
Ole, Ole
Down without asking.
The Real Lyrics:
All day, all day
Watch them all fall down
All day, all day
Domino dancing.
The Story: I heard this song for the first time when I was 7 years old, and I just couldn't get past Neil Tennant's accent. So, to the best of my knowledge the song had to do with boys and waves, with some kind of Spanish flare, hence the "ole, ole" - lol - Submitted by: Jayleen Delgado
Pet Shop Boys', "Paninaro"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Bunny now - woah.
The Real Lyrics:
Paninaro - woah.
The Story: I never really knew the title of the song, so I used to refer to it as the 'Bunny Now' song. Now I know what it is, it makes a lot more sense. :-) - Submitted by: Renae Moore
Pet Shop Boys', "So Hard"
The Misheard Lyrics:
If you give up your fags forever
I will give up mine
But it's hard, so hard.
The Real Lyrics:
If you give up your affairs forever
I will give up mine
But it's hard, so hard.
The Story: When I first heard this song, I thought the whole song was about giving up smoking. Because of that misheard lyric and the other lyric that goes in the song 'We both given up smoking, 'cos its fatal. So whose matches are those?' - Submitted by: The Triple F-Rated Coffee Stirrer
Pet Shop Boys', "West End Girls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
In a Western town with dead end walls
Eastern boys and Western girls.
The Real Lyrics:
In a West End town, a dead-end world
The East End boys and West End girls.
The Story: I thought this was a song about West Berlin during the Cold War! - Submitted by: Paulinho
Pet Shop Boys', "West End Girls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
In the West End town they didn't want
The East End Boys and West End Girls.
The Real Lyrics:
In a West end town, a dead-end world
The East End Boys and West End Girls.
The Story: I always believed this song was referring to some taboo in London high society against the mingling of wealthier girls from the West End of London and poorer boys from the East End. - Submitted by: Shumoon
Pet Shop Boys', "West End Girls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The western town of Denninwald
The East End boys and West End Girls.
The Real Lyrics:
A West End town, in a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls.
The Story: For Nearly 20 years I thought there was a town (probably in West Germany) called Denninwald. I felt stupid when I heard it on the radio this morning and the lyric just stood out at me. - Submitted by: Dan Fletcher
Pet Shop Boys', "West End Girls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Western Girls
The Real Lyrics:
West End Girls
The Story: I didn't listen close enough and even wrote this title wrong on a cassette for a friend of mine, when I made a copy for him. He had a good laugh about that :-) - Submitted by: Microslave
