Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Park de buses on de left-hand side.
Pass the dutchie on the left-hand side.
The Story: I first heard the song at a drunken party and started to sing along with (what I thought was) the words. To this day, I have never lived it down. - Submitted by: Bob
Pass the douchie on the right hand side.
Pass the dutchie on the left hand side.
The Story: When I first heard this song it was in the Wedding Singer. I thought it weird that little kids would be singing about that, but I forgot about it until I watched 'The 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders' on vh1 last year. Then, I realized they were saying 'dutchie' Jamaican slang for 'cooking pot', but they covered a song which originally had the lyric 'pass the cutchie' (sp) which is slang for a type of drug. - Submitted by: Miki Koishikawa

Mass destruction on the left-hand side
Pass the dutchie on the left-hand side
The Story: I DJ an 80's night at a club every Wednesday night in Raleigh NC. About a year ago some guy came up to the booth and asked for this song "Mass Destruction." I wasn't familiar with the title; I thought he may be referring to "World Destruction" by Time Zone or "19" by Paul Hardcastle. I asked this guy to sing a little bit of the song and he starts bobbing up and down singing, "Mass Destruction on the left-hand side..." My buddy Scott(who was near the DJ Booth) and I had to do everything to refrain from bursting out laughing! To this day when I see Scott on Wednesdays I tell him from time to time I may throw a little "Mass Destruction" into the mix. - Submitted by: Patrick Reier
