Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Michael Sembello

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Michael Sembello's, "Maniac"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And she's guessing like she's never guessed before

Michael Sembello's, "Maniac"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She's a Maniac, Maniac at your floor and she's dancin' like she never dance before!
The Real Lyrics:
She's a Maniac, Maniac I sure know and she's dancin' like she's never danced before!
The Story: When I first heard this song on the Flashdance end credits (it's played in a dance scene and then a part of the song is at the end credits) for "I sure know" I thought it was "at your floor" 'cause at the first part it goes "on the floor" - Submitted by: Irene
Michael Sembello's, "Maniac"
The Misheard Lyrics:
She's a maniac, maniac, el sprasso
The Real Lyrics:
She's a maniac, maniac, that's for sure
The Story: My friend was singing this in software class the other day, completely serious. I started laughing and asked her what on earth she just sang, then asked her what it meant... she had no clue. I suppose because of those taco commercials that used the song, she assumed it was something in Spanish. Still sounded pretty dumb. - Submitted by: Kerianne
