Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Massive Attack

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Massive Attack's, "Group Four"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A flat guy drinks or so it seems
All he really cares is to monitor me.
The Real Lyrics:
A flask I drink of sober tea
While relay cameras monitor me.
The Story: British rapping may be bad for your health. Especially if you're not a native English speaker. If you don't believe I actually heard those misheard lyrics, try listening to it yourselves. Scary, huh? - Submitted by: attacker
Massive Attack's, "Mezzanine"
The Misheard Lyrics:
All these other floors will need some height.
or
All these other floors will lead to mine.
The Real Lyrics:
All these other flaws will lead to mine.
The Story: Made sense because mezzanines are part of a building. So talking about floors/stories worked fine. - Submitted by: Eskilla
Massive Attack's, "Mezzanine"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And windows' home
The Real Lyrics:
And windows hum
The Story: I couldn't figure out why they were mentioning Microsoft. Isn't that taking product placement too far? Eventually, I searched the lyrics. This song-and other Massive Attack songs-are far too easy to mishear. - Submitted by: Eskilla
Massive Attack's, "Teardrop"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Shakespeare makes me wider.
The Real Lyrics:
Shakes me makes me lighter.
The Story: I have heard this song a million times now, knowing what the correct lyrics are, but I still hear her singing about iambic pentameter being fattening! - Submitted by: Leon van Eck
