Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Linda Ronstadt

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Linda Ronstadt's, "Blue Bayou"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm going back someday, come with me to blue by you.
The Real Lyrics:
I'm going back someday, come what may to blue bayou
The Story: I always thought as a kid when this song was popular and always on the radio that she was actually singing "blue by you". When I was young, I even would find something blue and touch it when I heard that line. Nobody ever corrected me. One day there was an ad for a mix CD (or tape...forget which) and that song was on it and the title scrolled up "Blue Bayou"...then it made more sense. Also until rather recently I misheard "come what may" as "come with me" - Submitted by: Charles Flannery
Linda Ronstadt's, "Blue Bayou"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Put it where the Sun don't shine.
The Real Lyrics:
Working till the Sun don't shine.
The Story: Well, people put their things in various pockets in their pants...I thought she was singing about putting coins in her hind pocket. - Submitted by: James Andrew Jaworski
Linda Ronstadt's, "Heat Wave"
The Misheard Lyrics:
It's like a speed way.
The Real Lyrics:
It's like a heat wave.
The Story: Someone asked me what I had just said when the song was playing and I said It's like a speed way. They started laughing and began sharing with everyone there what I thought the lyrics were. Still gets a good laugh from everyone when it is brought up. - Submitted by: Jim
Linda Ronstadt's, "It's So Easy to Fall In Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
It's a wheezy to fall in love.
(It's-a-wheezy-it's-a-wheezy-it's-a-wheezy.)
The Real Lyrics:
It's so easy to fall in love.
(It's-so-easy-it's-so-easy-it's-so-easy.)
The Story: My girlfriend and co-worker was singing along with the radio at work and was singing "It's a wheezy to fall in love." I listened for a few repeats of the catchy refrain before I aked her, "What's a wheezy?" She stopped singing with her mouth open and had the dumbest look on her face before she said, "I don't know. I think it's just something bad." - Submitted by: Mary S.
Linda Ronstadt's, "It's So Easy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
He's Luigi
The Real Lyrics:
It's so easy
The Story: Because Luigi rhymes with Easy - Submitted by: Micheal Timmons
Linda Ronstadt's, "Just One Look"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm gonna keep on skating
The Real Lyrics:
I'm gonna keep on scheming
The Story: Why not? Right around that time, Nicolette Larson encouraged Ronstadt to skate. Source: Casey Kasem, American Top 40, 3 March 1979. - Submitted by: David Dana-Bashian
Linda Ronstadt's, "Ooo Baby Baby"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm just a brown-eyed animal roped
The Real Lyrics:
I'm just about at the end of my rope
The Story: My cousin and I were driving somewhere in 93 and this song came on. Turning to me, she said, 'What is she saying here? Listen.' The paragraph came on and we listened. 'Is she saying: 'I'm just a brown-eyed animal roped?' I had a mental picture and just burst out laughing. I laughed so hard I wet my pants--literally. That made her laugh and she had to stop the car in the middle of the road because she couldn't see to drive. Unfortunately, this kid was standing by the bus stop when this happened and looked at us and we kept on laughing. I hate to think we contributed to his low-self-esteem. After we wiped the tears away, I told her the correct line. Of course, to this day, when the song comes on, I sing the 'misheard' lyric. - Submitted by: Cathryn Hayes
Linda Ronstadt's, "Ooo Baby Baby"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm just a brown-out in enema row
The Real Lyrics:
I'm just about at the end of my rope
The Story: That's the way I always heard it. - Submitted by: Jason
Linda Ronstadt's, "Winterlight"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Now the clear sky is all around you
Harloo, harlar
Love, shining, will surround you all through the night
Stars glowing in the twilight, tell me true
Of whispers and harlar, harloo
'Til you love me too
The Real Lyrics:
Now the clear sky is all around you
Hollow, hollow
Love's shadow will surround you all through the night
Stars glowing in the twilight, tell me true
Hope whispers and I will follow 'til you love me too
The Story: Since first hearing this on The Secret Garden, I checked it on lyrics sites. Since getting a PC and using earphones to watch the movie on it, I've realised that the lyrics sites have some of the lyrics wrong! - Submitted by: Romersa's Protege
