Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> LaVernBaker and the Gliders

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

LaVernBaker and the Gliders', "Jim Dandy to the Rescue"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Chimp Daddy to the rescue
The Real Lyrics:
Jim Dandy to the rescue
The Story: I love jive dancing and go to a Rock 'n' Roll Club in Hastings, UK every week. This record is a hoot to dance to. But the band is from Arkansas and we Brits can hardly understand what they say. Well, it's what I heard. Boy was I embarassed when I requested it off the DJ. But when we got the lyrics it doesn't make any less sense. Now everyone sings along and even make monkey noises. - Submitted by: Ian Smart
LaVernBaker and the Gliders', "Jim Dandy to the Rescue"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Jim Daddy to the rescue
The Real Lyrics:
Jim Dandy to the rescue
The Story: When I was a kid we had this on some recording. I loved the idea of Daddy coming to the rescue, and I loved the raucousness of this song. I used to jump around and get almost out of control when I'd listen to it. - Submitted by: Rachel
