Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Kentucky Headhunters

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Kentucky Headhunters', "Dumas Walker"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Let's go down to Junior Swampers
The Real Lyrics:
Let's all go down to Dumas Walker.
The Story: For over 25 years, I never knew the title of the song, or who sang it. And it bugged the heck out of me...'cause they slur the words, DUMAS WALKER...and I swear, he is singing Junior Swampers! ands I ALWAYS missed the DJ announcing the song...and of course, they hardly ever say the name after the song on Country music. So last night, listening to Country on my TV Station...it popped up: Kentucky Headhunters, Dumas Walker. I STILL hear Junior Swampers! - Submitted by: Doctor Wilbury
Kentucky Headhunters', "Dumas Walker"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You ought-a see him grin when money walks through the door.
The Real Lyrics:
You ought-a see him reelin' when he walks through the door.
The Story: I just happened to come across this website looking for the lyrics to Dumas Walker. As I was reading the lyrics on this site (that were stated to be the actual lyrics), I was listening to the song at the same time, and the lyric didn't sound right with the song. So I did some checking on a few different lyric sites, including CMT. com, and found that the true lyric is, You ought-a see him reelin'. - Submitted by: ContessaBlue

The Misheard Lyrics:
You ought-a see him reelin' when he walks through the door
The Real Lyrics:
You ought-a see him grin when money walks through the door
The Story: Why the HELL do people keep going back to the 'reelin' thing? They are playing marbles for money at the back of the store. Of course he's grinning when he sees someone else come in with money for him to win! - Submitted by: Gary munson
