Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Journey - Greatest Hits album at Amazon.com
You just ask bologna.
You just ask the lonely.
The Story: I heard Dean Castronovo (Journey drummer) name the song this way at a 2005 soundcheck in Texas. - Submitted by: Troy
Everyone wants a grill.
Everyone wants a thrill.
The Story: I would always sing my version whenever I heard the song. People would correct me, but I found my version too funny to stop singing. - Submitted by: Amanda Wilkins
I'm forever yours, wait for me.
I'm forever yours, faithfully.
The Story: My friend, Amy, in college was passionately belting out this beauty in the recreation room. It was so hysterical, I don't even think she ever knew why. - Submitted by: Amy
Girl caught up in machine needs more.
The girl can't help it, she needs more.
The Story: I spent many of my teen years listening to this song on a tape a friend made for me, trying to figure out what the heck 'machine' she was caught in. Was 'grown-up' love like a machine you got trapped in? Would I one day be caught up and need more? Finally one day I bought the tape (Yup, tape, not cd) and read the lyrics. Oh, that made much more sense. Oh yeah been caught up in the 'Love Machine' almost 10 years now :o) - Submitted by: hope
Ooh, there's a b**** in his eyes for you.
Ooh, there's a fire in his eyes for you.
The Story: The sad part is I have been working in radio for many years now. I knew my rendition was wrong, but I still sing this song the wrong way to myself. Though it does kinda kill the meaning of the song. ;) - Submitted by: Chris Haslage
Cinnamon gum
Shoulda been gone
The Story: My 5 year old nephew belted out this line when we were on a road trip. He showed so much conviction in his delivery, it was hard not to laugh. It still cracks me up. - Submitted by: Uri
And now that you've come back
Tonight and today
And now that you've come back
Turned night into day
The Story: I was telling a friend how stupid lyrics can be, quoting lines from many songs by way of illustration. When I came up to this one he said to me: songs can be silly, but you're doing your best to make them worse! - Submitted by: Janis L. Seitz
So now I come to you
With leprechauns.
So now I come to you
With open arms.
The Story: I was about 11 years old when my older sister, who is a huge Journey fan, heard me singing this. She told everyone in my family and all my boyfriends for years to come. It is legend in my family and her own special brand of torture for me. - Submitted by: Tina
Journey's,
"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)"
Love will find you
Great ghost, she can't find you.
Love will find you
Break those chains that bind you.
The Story: Ever since hearing this song on the radio one day, I had been wanting a copy of it offline (This was back when Napster was a less-than-legal service). But, I didn't know the title or band, and all I could remember was this single line of lyrics which I thought went 'Love will find you, great ghost she can't find you'. So, I went around searching for this 'great ghost' song with no luck. It wasn't until about a year later when I was told the real lyrics (Along with the title and band). I sure felt embarassed after that. - Submitted by: Cris Sturtz
Great clothes dress that find you.
Break those chains that bind you.
The Story: I sang it this way all through junior high and senior high school, thinking it was really nice of him to wish her to have a nice wardrobe. - Submitted by: Joseph Oh
