Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Jimmy Ruffin

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Jimmy Ruffin's, "What Becomes Of The Broken-Hearted?"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I know I got to find some kind of pizza pie.
The Real Lyrics:
I know I got to find some kind of peace of mind.
The Story: I was listening to my aunt's car radio, and Jimmy Ruffin came on. I wandered why he was singing about a pizza pie. A couple of years later, I heard Paul Young's cover version, and the 'Peace of mind' lyrics sounded clearer on that recording. After I learned about it, I told my mom about the 'Pizza pie' lyrics, and she always got reminded of it no matter which version they were playing on the radio. - Submitted by: John Joseph A. Jimmy Ruffin's, "What Becomes Of The Broken-Hearted"
The Misheard Lyrics:
What becomes of the broken hearted?
Who had love that's loudly farted?
The Real Lyrics:
What becomes of the broken hearted? Who had love that's now departed?
The Story: I heard the song on my uncle's car radio. Afterwards I sang it like the 'misheard' version above. My uncle reacted like I was singing it wrong on purpose. I really heard it that way, but I don't think I ever convinced him that I did. He told me what the real words are (after I sang it wrong several more times). - Submitted by: Lauren Overstreet
