Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Jim Connor

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Jim Connor's, "Grandma's Feather Bed"
The Misheard Lyrics:
After supper we'd s*** around the fire
The old folks s*** and chew.
The Real Lyrics:
After supper we'd sit around the fire
The old folks spit and chew.
The Story: Actually, my mom misheard this one. I'd been taught the song in third grade. I was singing it in the car, and mom misheard me and immediately began freaking out 'Where did you hear that!' So I told her the teacher taught it to us, and she was all set to go down and throttle the teacher. I had thought that the word she was freaking about was a 'darn' that occurred later on, and was parroting back to her the rationale I'd been given for why it was okay to say 'Jesus' in a song, but you couldn't say it otherwise. This did not simplify matters. It made for a very interesting car ride to say the least. Eventually, she realized the actual words, stopped freaking and refused to explain what she'd thought I'd been singing. - Submitted by: CaffieneKitty
