Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Isley Brothers

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Bah, hah, ehh!

Isley Brothers', "It's Your Thing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I can tell, yeah, you're a prostitute.
The Real Lyrics:
I can't tell ya, who to sock it to.
The Story: I heard the song for the first time on a local TV dance program in Philadelphia when I was about 15 years old. I told my brother and sister about it when the show was over. Of course, they didn't believe me. Later the same week, it was played on the American Bandstand shoe and my brother and sister rolled on the floor laughing at my lyrical gaffe. - Submitted by: Tom Perry
Isley Brothers', "Shout"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A little bit of f***in' now
A little bit of f***in' now.
The Real Lyrics:
A little bit softer now
A little bit softer now.
The Story: Actually, someone I used to work with at a skating rink thought I was crazy playing this song during a kids' skating session. She was the one who misheard the lyric. Had to make her a copy to listen on her Walkman before she'd believe what the real words were. - Submitted by: Mike
