Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Human Nature

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Human Nature's, "Depend On Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I just like the waitress tonight.
The Real Lyrics:
I like the way your dressed tonight.
The Story: I found this out when I sang it at my 5th grade talent show! How embarassing! - Submitted by: rezzy
Human Nature's, "Stomp"
The Misheard Lyrics:
If that punk has O.D.'d, it's the law.
The Real Lyrics:
And the funk just won't leave us alone.
The Story: Well, for starters,it's been a bazillion years since I last heard this song, and I never found out what the real lyrics were until today. I like mine better,by the way. Imagine my surprise, when I found out that ,according to the lyrics,it seems to be about having to fend off apparently possessed musical instruments: lyrics mention being pursued by the funk, and slapping the funk, and grabbing the groove, and then the bass gets into the melee somehow. Also, I always thought this song was by the Brothers Johnson, and have no idea what they actually did sing. Oh,well. - Submitted by: CathyCee
