Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Golden Earing

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Golden Earing's, "Radar Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Last quart of Pabst, here I go
The Real Lyrics:
Last car to pass, here I go
The Story: I was at the age when I was just starting to drink beer when this song was out. Quarts of beer were common, and Pabst Blue Ribbon was popular. Naturally, I heard 'last quart of Pabst', it was some years later when a friend corrected me. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about music, so I was a bit embarrassed. - Submitted by: Jack Damon
Golden Earing's, "Radar Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Reveille's comin' on strong.
The Real Lyrics:
Brenda Lee's "Coming On Strong"
The Story: I always thought it was 'Reveille's Coming On Strong' until I saw another misheard lyric and the real one here. - Submitted by: Patrick
Golden Earing's, "Twilight Zone"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Wearin' my fedora hat I've gone too far
The Real Lyrics:
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?
The Story: I had this running joke with a guy I liked about fedoras, and for years I'd thought these were the correct lyrics, so I sang that part for him and he said, 'What are you talking about?' and told me the right ones. Oops. - Submitted by: Katie Scanlon
