Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Gin Blossoms

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Gin Blossoms album at Amazon.com
Gin Blossoms', "Allison Road"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I never seen a road
The Real Lyrics:
On Allison Road
The Story: I just today looked up the lyrics of this song I have liked since the 90s and realized I've been wrong all these years! To me, he didn't know he was lost because he didn't know a road existed - hence (bad grammar noted) I never seen a road... - Submitted by: Sarah Weber
Gin Blossoms', "Found Out About You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about Matt out in the school yard.
The Real Lyrics:
Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard.
The Story: I always wondered who Matt was suppose to be, since he was not mentioned in any other part of the song. - Submitted by: Calvin W. Boaz
Gin Blossoms', "Found Out About You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Wizards at the bus stop I heard about knights of the school yard
The Real Lyrics:
Whispers at the bus stop I heard about nights out in the school yard.
The Story: Dungeons and Dragons was a childhood pastime. - Submitted by: Westenberger
Gin Blossoms', "Hey Jealousy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Tell me if you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I have no chief or tribe
And anyway, I've got no place to go.
The Real Lyrics:
Tell me if you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway, I've got no place to go.
The Story: I thought he meant, that he was by himself and he didn't have a lot of people with him (a tribe). So it should be okay for him to stay. I have heard it this way for 10 years now, and I finally looked up the lyrics because I had a vague idea that I was hearing it wrong all this time. - Submitted by: Frann
Gin Blossoms', "Hey, Jealousy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hate jealousy!
The Real Lyrics:
Hey, jealousy!
The Story: My husband, Sheldon, and I were arguing about these lyrics in the parking lot of a local farm-implement dealer. Neither one of us likes to admit we're wrong, so natuarally we argued the entire time we in the dealership. We got quite a few looks as we stood there looking at tractor parts and insisting what the correct lyrics are. - Submitted by: Kandi Barron
Gin Blossoms', "Hey, Jealousy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hey, Chelsea!
The Real Lyrics:
Hey, Jealousy!
The Story: The song was out when Bill Clinton was President. I thought the song was about his daughter! - Submitted by: Dan
Gin Blossoms', "Hey, Jealousy"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hey, Genesee!
The Real Lyrics:
Hey, Jealousy!
The Story: When this song came out I was in high school. My friends and I though it said 'Hey, Genesee' for the longest time. We thought it was cool cuz that's the kind of cheap beer we drank. Duh! Who'd sing a song about that cheap, crappy beer?! - Submitted by: Dawn
Gin Blossoms', "Till I Hear It from You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Till I hear it from...
Till I hear it from...
The Real Lyrics:
Till I hear it from you.
Till I hear it from you.
The Story: When I hear to this song, I feel misheard. Because, the singer sing "till I hear it from..." in every chorus without ended with "you" (or sometimes obscured by background vocals that the word "you" is not heard in this recording). Later, the singer finally sing "till I hear it from you" before the song unfortunately ended with fade out effect. What should they do with the lyrics that they wrote this? - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
