Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Gary Numan

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Pleasure Principle (Reis) album at
Gary Numan's, "Cars"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Beer in my car
Where the sewage flows out.
The Real Lyrics:
Here in my car
Where the image breaks down.
The Story: These are the original lyrics I wrote during a fit of compassion for the plight of the African sand warbler. [Ed.'s note: I figured he was drunk on beer, maybe.] - Submitted by: Gary Newman
Gary Numan's, "Telekon"
The Misheard Lyrics:
You are the Real One
You are the Real One
The Real Lyrics:
You end on reel one
You end on reel one
The Story: Gary Numan's output from the early eighties was sometimes difficult to understand lyrically. From 1980's "Telekon" through to 1981's "Dance" and 1982's "I, Assassin" it is sometimes hard to tell what he is singing about. The misheard lyric that I have submitted is the 1980 title track of "Telekon". My friend, also a Numanoid, pointed this out to me. Doesn't stop me loving Numan's music. - Submitted by: Lewis
