Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Frank Sinatra

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Classic Sinatra album at Amazon.com
Frank Sinatra's, "Jingle Bells"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Dashing through the snow (Pluto)
In a one-horse open sleigh (Today)
The Real Lyrics:
Dashing through the snow (To-doh)
In a one-horse open sleigh (Today)
The Story: I thought I heard the backup singers sing the name of either the smallest planet or Mickey Mouse's pet dog. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Frank Sinatra's, "My Way"
The Misheard Lyrics:
All summer long we sang a song
And then we strolled that golden sand
But more, much more than this
I did it my way
The Real Lyrics:
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way
The Story: Confusing one Sinatra classic with another, in this case, "The Summer Wind". - Submitted by: S. Tim Wood
Frank Sinatra's, "Strangers in the Night"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Scooby-dooby-doo
The Real Lyrics:
Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo
The Story: I really thought that's what he said, like the theme song from Scooby Doo, Where Are You?. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Frank Sinatra's, "Theme from 'New York New York'"
The Misheard Lyrics:
This sack of brown shoes
Are melting away.
The Real Lyrics:
These little town blues
Are melting away.
The Story: The misheard lyric is from the lyric section of a badly transcribed Asian bootleg. We were in a recording session, and one of the musicians brought it in. Everyone started laughing so hard, we couldn't get anything recorded for a half hour or so. - Submitted by: Lotta Bass
Frank Sinatra's, "Young at Heart"
The Misheard Lyrics:
If you are a mungleberry young at heart
The Real Lyrics:
If you are amongst the very young at heart
The Story: What is a mungleberry? I don't know. By the way, this misheard lyric was not my own. It appeared in a newspaper column. - Submitted by: Scott McPhee
