Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Filter

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Filter's, "Hey Man Nice Shot"
The Misheard Lyrics:
That's why I say hey man nice shirt, nice shirt man.
The Real Lyrics:
That's why I say hey man nice shot, nice shot man.
The Story: I heard this song in the movie Demon Knight (Starring Billy Zane & Jada Pinkette). I really thought it rocked. I was singing it out loud one day, and my boyfriend fell over laughing at me. Mainly because he knew I thought those were really the words. Later he corrected me. - Submitted by: Dark Ritual9
Filter's, "Hey Man, Nice Shot"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hey man, nice shirt
The Real Lyrics:
Hey man, nice shot
The Story: A fellow U.S. Army soldier mis-sung this lyric while we were stationed in Germany and I happened to overhear him. I believe he was singing along as we were preparing to spend a night out on the town and 'shirt' obviously fit in better with getting dressed up to step out rather than 'shot'. I corrected him and he assured me that he thought they were saying 'shirt' since the song came out initially. What with some of the actual song lyrics one hears, I could hardly blame him. - Submitted by: Brian Oldham

Wiggle my airplane
The Real Lyrics:
Awake on my airplane
The Story: I don't think a single one of my friends knows the real name of this song. We all call it the 'Wiggle My Airplane' song. Even my ten year old does. Whenever we hear it we sing as loud as we can, which is funny all in itself. - Submitted by: Serena

Filter's, "Take a Picture"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Cause you wanna take a picture, cause I worry remember.
The Real Lyrics:
Could you take my picture, cause I won't remember.
The Story: This is a slow rock ballad recorded by an industrial metal band. I using this misheard lyric that refer to the title song from their second album 'Title of Record', but Richard Patrick sing this song as "Take My Picture" not "Take a Picture". Indeed, If Richard Patrick sing this song in the final chorus (and later as coda) that he sang repeated up to 50 times, then that line will be combined with a new line and then "Take a Picture" (Extended Mix) was released internationally not only for dance market, but also alternative market, pop market, and rock market. Unfortunately, for ease in reading only eight lines that can be displayed. - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji

The Real Lyrics:
