Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Debelah Morgan

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Debelah Morgan's, "Dance With Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Sisqo was right, let's make love
The Real Lyrics:
Tempo is right, let's make love
The Story: Well, to this day, I swear it sounds exactly like she's saying 'Sisqo', but I always had to wonder before: 'Why is she singing about Sisqo?' Then, I tried to find the lyrics a long time ago for a parody of it and it said it was 'Pretend I was right, let's make love', which made me even more confused over how 'pretend' could sound like 'Sisqo', and why she was saying 'pretend' in the first place. I only found out the really lyrics just now. - Submitted by: Carrie
Debelah Morgan's, "Dance With Me"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Tipper was right,
let's make love
The Real Lyrics:
Tempo is right,
let's make love
The Story: I heard this song and thought they were taking a shot at Al Gore's old lady. I thought they were ironically suggesting that she and her prmc were right and kids would take up licentious behavior just because the song mentioned it. Perhaps it was written by pro-Bush or Nader people? I really got into the political and timely nature of the song, until I found the real lyrics and my whole theory was blown. - Submitted by: sherri
