Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Death Cab For Cutie

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Death Cab For Cutie's, "President of What"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I saw the semen fall.
The Real Lyrics:
I saw the scene unfold.
The Story: Chris (ed: presumably a sibling), my mother, and I were in the car listening to DCFC's 'Something About Airplanes' when this song came on. After hearing the line about a dozen times, I just had to ask, 'What IS he SAYING?' I was told that it was 'I saw the scene unfold,' and when I blurted what I thought he said, the car got silent. - Submitted by: Kyle
Death Cab For Cutie's, "Soul Meets Body"
The Misheard Lyrics:
But if the sirens takes you
The Real Lyrics:
But if the silence takes you
The Story: I used that for an English project as an allusions to mythology. Two weeks later, I find out I was wrong about the lyrics. - Submitted by: klaus
Death Cab for Cutie's, "You Are A Tourist"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When there's a burning in your heart
And you think little purse apart
Or there's nothing to feel
Save the Jews, save the Jews
When there's a burning in your heart
The Real Lyrics:
When there's a burning in your heart
And you think it'll burst apart
Or there's nothing to feel
Save the tears, save the tears
When there's a burning in your heart
The Story: I seriously thought these were really strange lyrics when I first listened to this song. Thought maybe it was some backwards reference to the holocaust or something dealing with a little girl's purse. - Submitted by: pohlmacs
