Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
I grow weary of the tall men
Can there be no peace?
The Real Lyrics:
I grow weary of the torment
Can there be no peace?
The Story: I have always enjoyed what I saw as the 'revenge' aspect of this misheard lyric, given my relative lack of height. :) - Submitted by: Fussbudget
The Misheard Lyrics:
And I dreamed I saw the farmer Des Plaines riding shotgun in the sky.
The Real Lyrics:
And I dreamed I saw the bombers and planes riding shotgun in the sky.
The Story: I thought that the farmer who rented the field for Woodstock must have been named Des Plaines and this was CSNY's way of giving him a plug. - Submitted by: Steve
The Misheard Lyrics:
and life is perverted
The Real Lyrics:
and life is for learning
The Story: One of my most embarrasing moments was singing the wrong lyrics aloud in front of people who actually knew the words! To this day, I can not listen to this song - by CSN&Y or Joni Mitchell. I get severe retro-embarrassment - Submitted by: Jennie D. Ide
