Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Cradle Of Filth

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Cradle Of Filth's, "Beneath The Howling Stars"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Whom her reddend lips hold
A***!
The Real Lyrics:
Whom her reddened lips hold
Fast!
The Story: Sitting at my computer, blithely playing illegal downloads (not on there any more!), my little bro turned around from his repose at the Warhammer desk and asked in absolute sincerity: 'Cradle of Filth don'T sing in English, do they?' 'Brother Small, what else would they be singing in?' 'Oh. So they do. Only I thought it must have been Swahili or something - can't make out a single word this lady's singing about' 'Child, it's not a lady singing! That is Dani's own dulcet howls you've just insulted!' 'In that case, why's he singing about an a***?' 'What?!' 'Something something deaded hips and a***.' 'Reddened lips hold fast, thou raddle-pated child!' Needless to say, we shall be keeping Brother Small away from our cd collection, to avoid further hideous misunderstandings. - Submitted by: Fuchsia
Cradle Of Filth's, "Born In A Burial Gown"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Sibilant and eating corn
The Real Lyrics:
Sibilant and macabre
The Story: When I listened to this I couldn't figure out what Dani Filth was saying in the first line. It really sounded like 'Sibilant and eating corn', instead of 'Sibilant and Macabre'. So I kept singing the misheard line to my friends and myself. I sang it to my dog and she ran away from me. - Submitted by: Thomas Dowd
