Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

And I've laid a stack that's a fact; ain't holdin' nothin' back
And that lady's stacked that's a fact; ain't holdin' nothin' back
The Story: I couldn't understand during that decade how something so explicit as "Laid a stack" could be played on the radio. I was at a music store and looked at the sheet music before I actually knew the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Linda
Shake a cow, shake a cow, now.
Shake it down, Shake it down now
The Story: Ever since I was a kid, when I first heard this song. I have always thought the verse was "shake a cow". So as a lad, I have always called it "The cow song". Years later, a coworker also noted that the song sounded like "shake a cow", and he and I became awesome friends. We both laugh at this song everytime we hear it. I believe I submitted the first "shake a cow" misheard lyric here ages ago, but wanted to add the story as well. - Submitted by: Steveo
She's a mekka ma zan
Who's built like a black Amazon

I'm not happy when I'm driving naked, no.
I'm not happy when I have to fake it, no.
The Story: I've been hearing the "I'm not happy when I'm driving naked" line ever since I was a kid back when the song was new. I'm 49. I always thought it was a pretty odd thing to say in a ballad. - Submitted by: Craig Bickford
You see, I begged, stole, and I borrowed, yeah, ooh
You see, I beg, stole and I borrowed, yeah, ooh

Comin' down on the nightshift

My thoughts believing,
Holding hands with your hearts to see you,
ONLY BLUE DOGS IN LOVE, --- etc etc
Found the love we shared September, ONLY BLUE DOGS IN LOVE
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love
How we knew love was here to stay
Now December found the love we shared in September
Only blue talk and love, remember the true love we share today
The Story: For decades I was like, why are only the blue dogs in love? Why are the dogs in love, period? Why are they blue? : - ) -- even with this new reboot that is on all the commercials this month, I thought, what the hell? So looked up the lyrics. - Submitted by: Alex Kuczynski
They're nothing to keep us to fart
There's nothing to keep us apart
The Story: It's always funny to hear "fart"! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Come into this wonderland of mind
Come into this wonderland of mine
The Story: Once again, I often confused myself between “mine” and “mind” and vice versa. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
