Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

"Aw freak out!

The Story: For several years after this Disco classic (which I love) was released and was a big #1 hit 40-years ago I thought these were the lyrics, being for sure that some woman or girl was singing about some guy that was to her a dancing 'Freak' from perhaps France. A few years later, in 1983, I was singing this song and these misheard lyrics to impress some girl and sure enough I did to the point where she was rolling on the floor laughing at my infamous misheard lyrics. - Submitted by: Peter
The Story: This woman requested this song entitled 'Africa' and the dj wanted to know if she meant the song by Toto. she said that it wasn't, then she sang it on the air! - Submitted by: Gina Juan

Come mow the lawn
And have a real good time
And have a real good time
The Story: When I last mowed the yard, this song came on my MP3 player while I was still mowing. - Submitted by: Bill S
The Story: You know how lots of websites say “make a free account”, well, this kinda sounds like something that would be used in a commercial, like some kind of jingle for a website where you can make a free account, hence the play on words. - Submitted by: Fifi
The Story: The first time I heard this song was when I was watching the movie "Heavyweights", it was playing when Ben Stiller's character was making the fat kids do striding exercises. The music was playing in the background and I couldn't hear it too well. "Hey, stride!" seemed like more appropriate lyrics for the scene than "Freak Out!" - Submitted by: Thaddeus Gammelthorpe
The Story: I was a little hearing on "Said she" or "Said Chic" when it was actually French. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
