Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Captain & Tennille

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Captain & Tennille's, "Love Will Keep Us Together"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Young and beautiful
But someday you'll look so divine.
The Real Lyrics:
Young and beautiful
But someday your looks will be gone.
The Story: About the time I was mishearing this lyric, I also mishead the dj. I thought the group was named 'The Black Cat's Meal'. - Submitted by: David Thomas
Captain & Tennille's, "You Need a Woman Tonight"
The Misheard Lyrics:
No man can do it all alone
And he's to find a guy who might
The Real Lyrics:
No man can do it all alone
He needs to find a guiding light
The Story: This was a Top 40 hit in 1979 and the first time I heard the misheard lyric I thought, "Whoa! Did Toni Tennille really say that?" Over the years I've played the record for others and the looks on their faces are classic! When I finally found out what the correct lyrics were decades later I was surprised I was incorrect. I still wonder to this day if it wasn't intentional. - Submitted by: Ronnie Gonzalez
