Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Brand New Heavies

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Brand New Heavies', "Midnight at the Oasis"
The Misheard Lyrics:
At midnight, I see Oasis, sing your camera to bed
OR
At midnight, I see Oasis, send your camera to Beth
The Real Lyrics:
Midnight at the oasis, send your camel to bed
The Story: Not being familiar with the 70s original by Maria Muldaur at the time this Brand New Heavies cover was out around 1994/'95, I thought the song was about seeing the band Oasis (in concert) at midnight - Oasis were very popular at the time so I thought this song was an ode to them! I didn't realise that "oasis" in this song actually referred to a desert - and not the band. - Submitted by: Jacynthia Maries
