Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Blues Image

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Blues Image's, "Ride, Captain, Ride"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I was a piece of sea.
The Real Lyrics:
Out on the peaceful sea
The Story: I wasn't familiar with this song until I heard it playing on the sound system in a Barnes & Noble store. Since the volume wasn't especially high, and people were talking, it wasn't surprising that I had trouble hearing the lyrics. (Although they might just be hard to understand an any event!) Anyhow, I perceived that one line sounded like "I was a piece of sea". I listened more until I could pick up a couple of other lines just well enough to google them and identify the song. Then I could look up its actual lyrics. That way I found the line I misheard to actually be "Out on the peaceful sea"! - Submitted by: Norma Lehigh
