Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Black Crowes - Greatest Hits 1990-1999: Tribute Work in Progress album at Amazon.com
Hey little sailor, does that light your candle?
Pretty little thing, let me light your candle.
The Story: On the TV hit show, 'America's Got Talent', the performing group The Millers did this song, with the older brother singing the lyrics; and the misheard lyrics are what I heard him sing. I didn't find out the right lyrics until I googled the lyrics. - Submitted by: King Krome
Hey little thing, I'm a proud Chicano.
Hey little thing, let me light your candle.
The Story: I was visit in Los Angeles for the first time in 1990 when I first heard this song on the radio. My hearing was obviously influenced by too many Cheech and Chong movies. - Submitted by: JS
I got nothin' but Flintstone lovin'.
That ain't nothin' but ten-cent lovin'.
The Story: My mom used to sing this line wrong. When you're a kid, you think your parents know everything. So I assumed it was right, too. - Submitted by: Frann
Pretty little thing, let me light your candle
'Cause Mama, I'm so a-henna now, henna now, here.
Pretty little thing, let me light your candle
'Cause Mama, I'm so hard to handle now, yes I am.
The Story: I guess that's how I hear the lyric. It's kind of hard to understand the lead singer. I try to sing along to the toon, and my wife thinks it's funny. - Submitted by: Brian
Pretty little thing
Livin' life's a chemical
And mama, you're sure hard to hanna naow
Yes, you are.
Pretty little thing
Let me light your candle
'Cause mama, I'm sure hard to handle now
Yes, I am.
The Story: That's how I heard my big sister sing it in the car. Then that's how I started singing it. Then I was trying to find out the name of the song so I could download it. And I couldn't get the lyrics right enough to actually find the title until this site had similar misheard lyrics. It actually led me to the right song. :p - Submitted by: Ari
Hey, let me think, lemming night the candle
'Cause mama, you're surely Gehenna now, vis-cer-al.
Hey little thing, let me light your candle
'Cause mama, I'm sure hard to handle now, yes I am.
The Story: Just involves my fascination with the occult and my inability to figure out what they were singing. Whenever I sang along with the music on the radio, it was usually louder than my voice and nobody ever noticed that my lyrics make no sense. - Submitted by: Chris D.
Hey, little thing, let me light your chemicals
Mama, I'm showin' the ha-na-na, he's around
Hey, little thing, let me light your candle 'cause
Mama, I'm sure hard to handle, now, gets around
The Story: I got into an argument about whether the line was 'chemicals' or 'candle 'cause.' I mean, didn't Chris Robinson wear those pants with hemp leaves on them? Robinson's voice is the quintessential rock 'n' roll voice: rough and garbled. In a good way, of course. - Submitted by: John Plasket
I have got some good old lovin'
and I got some rolling stone
I have got some good old lovin'
and I got some more in store
The Story: My friend and I were at work, in the back, and this song came on so we started singing. I sang what I thought they said and my friend said, "What?" We both started laughing so hard, neither of us could hardly breathe. I was so embarrased. Luckily we were the only ones in the back at that time. Every time that song plays and we're together, we start laughing. - Submitted by: Tracy Limon
