Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Andy Kim

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Andy Kim's, "Rock Me Gently"
The Misheard Lyrics:
F*** me slowly, I'm a chicken.
The Real Lyrics:
Rock me gently, rock me slowly.
The Story: My teenage son heard me playing this song on a compilation cd of 70's music. He turned to me and asked, with a straight face, 'Did they just say' and repeated the misheard lyrics typed above. Now every time I hear that song I see the confused look on his face and the words he misheard keep replacing the real words. - Submitted by: Peter Rilea
Andy Kim's, "Rock Me Gently"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Rock me gently, rock me holy.
The Real Lyrics:
Rock me gently, rock me slowly.
The Story: A commercial gave on with someone singing, and my son started singing along. When he sang, the line, "Rock me gently, rock me holy," I started laughing and asked him to sing it again. When I told him what the lyrics really were, he said he always heard his dad sing it that way. - Submitted by: Jackie
