Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Andrews Sisters

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Andrews Sisters', "Bei Mir bist du Schen"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My mean Mr. James!
The Real Lyrics:
Bei Mir Bist Du Schen
The Story: On colleges in Sweden, this one's sung with the lyrics 'Bär ner mig till sjon' (Carry me down to the lake'). After a hot party, you might need just that! - Submitted by: Marie
Andrews Sisters', "Bei Mir bist du schön"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My dear Mr. Shane.
The Real Lyrics:
Bei mir bist du schön (German) Bei mir bist du sheyn (Yiddish)
The Story: For once, a misheard lyric actually made sense within the context of the song. Many years after first hearing this song, I heard it again while I was living in Germany and spoke that language. I instantly recognized the correct lyrics. It's Yiddish, which often overlaps with German; in this case, the words are identical, but the Yiddish pronunciation is a bit different, and hence the spelling. (See above.) - Submitted by: Nicholas Corwin
Andrews Sisters', "Bel Mir Bist Du Schon"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I really miss you, Shane
Please let me explain.
The Real Lyrics:
Bel mir bist du schon
Please let me explain.
The Story: I thought she was singing to a guy named Shane. Maybe she broke up with him and she wanted him back. I thought it was funny that his name was Shane because it seems like a more modern name. The song is really old. - Submitted by: Michelle
