Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Aimee Mann

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Aimee Mann's, "Going Through The Motions"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Going through the mushrooms, baby.
The Real Lyrics:
Going through the motions, baby.
The Story: I'd heard this song many times on the radio (can't say it's one of my favorites). But every time I heard it, I heard the same thing about mushrooms. It was only after the dj identified it one time that I realized I'd made a mistake! - Submitted by: C R Costigan
Aimee Mann's, "Little Bombs"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Inside a cell
Of the Linux Hotel.
The Real Lyrics:
Inside a cell
Of the Lennox Hotel.
The Story: I've known a lot of 'My-Operating-system-is-better- than- yours' types. I just happened to be talking to one, who is a fellow Aimee fan. This song came on and I was listening to it for the first time while I was talking to him online. I said 'WHAT?? Did she just say LINUX HOTEL??' In retrospect, it kinda surprises me that he corrected me, and didn't tell me how great Linux or Unix was---for once. - Submitted by: Lisa
Aimee Mann's, "Voices Carry"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hush, hush, who knew downtown was so scary?
The Real Lyrics:
Hush, hush, keep it down now, voices carry.
The Story: I was riding home after pulling and all-nighter in Las Vegas with my best friend while playing this song (on the stereo). He sang the lyrics above; and I laughed so hard, I made him pull over. When I asked him if he thought it was weird or if it made sense, he said, "It was the 80's and everyone was coked out. Nothing made sense." - Submitted by: Brandon
