Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> .38 Special

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Very Best of the A&M Years (1977-1988) album at Amazon.com
.38 Special's, "Hold On Loosely"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hold on, Bruce Lee.
The Real Lyrics:
Hold on loosely.
The Story: When I was in a cover band we used to sing it with the wrong lyrics just to see if the drunk S.O.B.s would notice. - Submitted by: Mark Cundiff
.38 Special's, "Second Chance"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A fart needs a chance to pass.
The Real Lyrics:
A heart needs a second chance.
The Story: I was in a vocational workshop, and this song was on the radio. I was not paying attention to the lyrics, so that is what I thought I heard. I nearly wet my pants laughing and had to explain it to the guy running the workshop. Luckily, I heard it right the next time they sang the line in the song. - Submitted by: Ronald Cowan
.38 Special's, "Wild Eyed Southern Boys"
The Misheard Lyrics:
One-eyed colored boys
The Real Lyrics:
Wild-eyed southern boys
The Story: In the 80s, I worked at my city's hip record store. One Saturday afternooon, a redneck came and asked for help finding a song. He explained that one of his buddies had it, and that they had played it over and over again the night before while drinking. I asked what lyrics he remembered hearing, and he replied, in all seriousness, 'One Eyed Colored Boys.' This one might be to politically incorrect, but the story is both priceless and true. - Submitted by: Mike Leahy
