Misheard Lyrics -> Song -> L -> Longer Boats

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. This page contains all the misheard lyrics for Longer Boats that have been submitted to this site and the old collection from inthe80s started in 1996. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

Cat Stevens', "Longer Boats"
Misheard Lyrics:
I don't want no blood on my lawn
Original Lyrics:
I don't want no God on my lawn
One of the few times when the real lyric is stranger than the one I heard! Another line in the same lyrics, 'Mary dropped her pants by the sand and let a parson come and take her hand' (at least I never misheard THAT) has to be the weirdest line in any 1970s popular song, although the strangely-blasphemous (for a Christian folk singer) 'I don't want no God on my lawn' runs it close.
Cat Stevens', "Longer Boats"
Misheard Lyrics:
Mary dropped her pants by the sand
And let a possum come and take her hand
But the soul of nobody knows
Where the possum goes.
Where does the possum go?
Original Lyrics:
Mary dropped her pants by the sand
And let a parson come and take her hand
But the soul of nobody knows
Where the parson goes.
Where does the parson go?
